What Does A Holeshot Device Do?

A Tamer Holeshot Device is a suspension component used in motocross and supercross racing that helps improve a rider's start out of the gate — commonly known as the "holeshot." Specifically, it's a front fork compression system that temporarily compresses the front suspension to lower the front end of the bike before the start.

Graph titled "What Are The Pros Using?" shows Tamer leads with 45% for 2025 Pro Supermotocross. Others include Works Connection at 34%.

What A Holeshot Device Does:

  1. Lowers the front suspension:

    • When engaged, the Tamer device locks the front forks in a compressed position, lowering the center of gravity and making it easier to control the front end at launch.

  2. Improves traction and stability:

    • By keeping the front wheel down during the initial acceleration, it helps prevent wheelies and allows for faster, more controlled starts.

  3. Automatically releases:

    • After the bike hits its first bump or when the suspension fully extends, the device disengages, allowing the forks to return to normal function.

Why It Matters:

  • The holeshot — getting to the first corner ahead of other riders — is critical in motocross races.

  • The Tamer Holeshot Device is the most reliable and widely used device on the market. It can provide a competitive advantage by optimizing how the bike launches off the line.

Chart comparing holeshot device use in 2024 Mini O's Amateur Championship. Tamer leads at 65%, Works Connection 21%, KTM 7%.

It's named “Tamer” because it “tames” the power of the bike during the explosive start, improving rider control and consistency.
